Helen Zia Visits Twin Cities

USCPFA-MN President Ralph Beha talks with author (and fellow early ’70s Princeton graduate) Helen Zia and Bo Thao-Urabe, Executive and Network Director of the Coalition of Asian American Leaders, at Ms. Zia’s presentation in St. Paul, MN on August 15, 2019.

Author Helen Zia visited the Twin Cities last month under the auspices of the Coalition of Asian American Leaders, and spoke about her latest book, a well-researched and beautifully written family memoir called Last Boat Out of Shanghai.  Ms. Zia’s talk was presented at the Wilder Foundation in St. Paul.  Numerous Asian-American leaders attended the reception, lecture, Q and A, and book signing.  Ms. Zia’s previous work includes Asian-American Dreams: The Emergence of an American People (Farrar Strauss and Giroud, 2000) and an early article on barefoot doctors and health care in China in the USCPFA’s New China publication in the mid-1970s.
