Minnesota Chapter President, Sister City of Harbin’s Foreign Affairs Office Organize Intellectual Property Rights Seminar

On April 30, 2019 the Harbin Foreign Affairs Office, in collaboration with the Harbin Innovation and Incubation Center for Industry Technology (Chinese Academy of Sciences), organized an intellectual property seminar in Harbin on technology transfer and licensing, basic US patent practices, and the basics of the Chinese patent process, as well as and new trends in Chinese IP services.  The event was attended by 20 representatives of academic, governmental, and industry institutions in Heilongjiang province.  Presenters included Minnesota Chapter President Ralph Beha, Ms. Christine (Rong) YANG of the Minneapolis law firm HSML, and Mr. DENG Yu of SHINE IP, Harbin-based patent agency. Given the high volume of negative and inaccurate press and social media reporting on the IP, the seminar was an opportunity for serious dialogue to exchange information, ideas and practices for the protection of intellectual property rights within China, and the appropriate methodologies for the transfer of technologies and processes for determining market entry strategies while respecting intellectual property rights of third parties.

After seminar, Ralph Beha presents HFAO Director CAO with copies of 2019 Minnesota Book Award winner “Chinese-ness” by Wing Young Huie.
