Author Helen Zia visited the Twin Cities last month under the auspices of the Coalition of Asian American Leaders, and spoke about her latest book, a well-researched and beautifully written family memoir called Last Boat Out of Shanghai. Ms. Ziaâs talk was presented at the Wilder Foundation in St. Paul. Numerous Asian-American leaders attended the reception, lecture, Q and A, and book signing. Ms. Ziaâs previous work includes Asian-American Dreams: The Emergence of an American People (Farrar Strauss and Giroud, 2000) and an early article on barefoot doctors and health care in China in the USCPFAâs New China publication in the mid-1970s.
