The USCPFA-MN is pleased to be a co-sponsor of the upcoming visit of Jamie Ford, (author of the New York Times best-seller The Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet) will be speaking about his upcoming book, The Many Daughters of Afong Moy, which will be published this August by Atria Books, a Simon and Schuster company. A “captivating historical fiction with a speculative spin”, the book follows several generations of fictional descendants of the real first Chinese woman to set foot in America, Afong Moy, in 1832, from Kunming to Baltimore, San Francisco and Silicon Valley to Summerhill in England, up through a woman in a fictional Seattle in the year 2045. Through fiction, Ford is able to touch our emotions and illuminate the experience of Chinese-American women across almost two centuries.
The event will be held at Grace-Trinity Church, 1430 W. 28th Street in Minneapolis, at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 9. At 6:30 pm there will be a social hour before the event, with piano and guzheng music, and light snacks provided by the supportive team at Legendary Spice.
