February 23: Free Benefit Concert at U of M to Help COVID-19 Victims

The USCPFA-MN is proud to support the University of Minnesota’s China Center in presenting Jacqueline Beihua Tang in a concert to support those affected by the current COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis in China.  The University has set up a fund to help students and scholars weather the impact of the coronavirus. Many families are not working or may be tending to someone who is ill, causing great hardship for the students here. The resources for international students to address these crisis are limited and certainly do not anticipate the scope of need in an epidemic case. At the Concert, more information will be provided on how to contribute to this fund and a fund to support infectious disease research.

Join us for an afternoon of traditional Chinese music as we show our support for the students, scholars, and members of the Chinese American community who have been impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.

Jacqueline Beihua Tang is a renowned pianist and a piano professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and a visiting professor at the Tianjin Conservatory. As a distinguished educator, Tang has won multiple awards, including the Special Award for Outstanding Teachers. She has been a jury member of many international competitions, such as the Concurso International de Piano Premio “Jaen” and Conservatorlo Municipal de Musica “José Iturbi” de Valencia in Spain, and the Premio Mauro Paolo Monopoli in Italy, among others. Tang has also taught multiple master classes in the U.S., France, and China.

Tang has educated many prize-winning students in various competitions. Cunmo Yin won the Telekom Beethoven Competition, considered the most prestigious in the world, in December 2019. In the 50th Concurso International de Piano Premio ‘Jaen’ in Spain in 2008, Tang’s 16-year-old student Qin Yunyi emerged from four rounds of competitions and won the First Prize and the Audience Award, becoming the youngest prize winner in the history of this event.

Tang received a master of arts in music from the University of Minnesota and is the Shanghai regional director of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association. She is currently visiting Minnesota from Hawaii.
